New Paramore song!

Hey guys, just a short post to tell you the good news.

Today, Paramore released the second song for their new album (After Laughter). It’s called Told You So, and the sound is very similar to that of the first single, Hard Times. They also carry on with linking serious or sad lyrics to a catchy and upbeat tune.

This confirms that Paramore have really changed their sound, and I think this is a good thing. It shows they are evolving like a healthy band should (and Paramore has been far from a healthy band the last couple of years), and I think (and hope) it also shows they are moving on from their split with bassist Jeremy Davis and the drama that ensued.

In my opinion, Hard Times might be a bit better but Told You Song is still a very good song. If the rest of the album is like this, I really look forward to it. May 12th can’t come soon enough.

What do you think about the new Paramore songs? Let me know!

Exciting new music

There are a lot of artists releasing new songs and there are some exciting new albums up for release the next couple of months, and I would like to discuss some with you today.

I already talked about Paramore’s new single Hard Times and their upcoming album ‘After Laughter’ (expected May 12th), which I am really excited about. Last post was about Mac Demarco and his new album, This Old Dog, to be released May 5th. With four promising  singles already released, this is also something I look forward to.

Then there’s also Imagine Dragons. They have now released two singles from their third album, Believer and Thunder. Although their second album (Smoke + Mirrors) was a bit of a disappointment for me, because I felt they didn’t hit the level they hit on their first album (Night Visions), Believer might just be their best single yet, so I look forward to hearing more of them. The album is expected early May.

On to Of Mice & Men. The metal band just released their first single without Austin Carlile, their former lead singer, who left because of health issues. Their bassist, Aaron Pauley, is now also their vocalist. Judging by the sound of their new song, Unbreakable, they haven’t lost their original sound.

Lastly I want to talk about All Time Low’s new song, Life Of The Party. I have to be honest, I’m not a big All Time Low fan, but this new single has a lot of energy to it. If the rest of the album is like this single, I’m pretty sure I’ll like it. The new album is called Last Young Renegade and it drops on June 2nd.

Are there any new songs/albums I missed? Let me know!

Mac Demarco

Hey, I’m back again with some new music.

If you’re looking for some chilled out, mellow background music, I have a recommendation for you: Mac Demarco. This Canadian singer, formerly of Makeout Videotape, describes his own music as ‘jizz jazz’, and that just might be the best term for it.

My favourite Demarco sing is Salad Days, and I think it also best describes his style. His most popular track (on Spotify) is Chamber Of Reflection, which is a bit more pronounced, and indeed best described as ‘jizz jazz’. Another really cool song is Ode To Viceroy, a ballad for his preferred brand of cigarettes (which I think is rather peculiar, but hey, he’s the artist here).

Demarco has already released three albums and a fourth is on the way, with three singles released, On The LevelMy Old Man and This Old Dog. These three tracks suggest that Mac is sticking to his old style, with jazzy tunes, an easy-going flow and a soft voice.

The new Mac Demarco album is planned to be released on May 5, and I  can’t wait for more of his music. The new singles are very promising.

If you really liked this kind of music, you should look up Makeout Videotape, Demarco’s previous project (I warn you, it’s not on Spotify).

Listen to a couple of his songs and let me know what you thought in the comments. Also, if you know any bands I might like, don’t hesitate and tell me!

Today I want to talk with you about the band Fun.

As you probably know, Fun. is a rock band from the United States, consisting of Nate Ruess (lead singer), Jack Antonoff (lead guitarist) and Andrew Dost (multi-instrumentalist). They earned a lot of fame with their 2012 album ‘Some Nights’, what in my opinion is one of the best albums made in the 2010’s so far. Especially the songs ‘We Are Young’ (ft. Janelle Monáe) and ‘Carry On’ are, in my opinion, extremely good. Well, it’s been 5 years, and we’re all waiting for new Fun. music. The bad news is that we probably are going to be disappointed. Reports say that some of the band members are barely talking to each other and clashing of ego’s is listed as one of the main reasons. It’s really sad, but there’s also good news: two of the band members are pursuing promising solo careers.

Let’s start with Nate Ruess and his 2015 album, ‘Grand Romantic’. The most well-known song on the album is ‘Nothing Without Love’, and I think it’s also the best. The song and the rest of the album really stick to the Fun. style, so if you’re missing Fun. and you’ve already listened to ‘Some Nights’ twice today, you should probably consider ‘Grand Romantic’. I really recommend it.

On to Jack Antonoff, the lead guitarist of Fun. Antonoff was already working on his own project, ‘Bleachers’, while still on tour with the Fun. band, and his second album as  Bleachers is due this summer. His first album, with the single ‘I Wanna Get Better‘ one of my favourite songs of all time, was quite a success. Bleachers songs have a lot of raw emotion in them, but the tunes are often really catchy. Antonoff already released two singles for his  new album, ‘Don’t Take The Money’ and ‘Hate That You Know Me’, and they’re promising. Bleachers come back with emotional lyrics and catchy tunes. Jack Antonoff might not have stuck to the Fun. sound like Nate Ruess did, but I still recommend giving the songs above a listen.

What is your opinion on Fun. breaking up and the band members’ solo careers?

Let me know!

Hey, I’m Douwe.
I’m a 18 years old kid from the Netherlands.
What’s this about, you ask?
Music. I love music. I don’t play an instrument and I can’t sing, but damn, I love music.
What kind of music? Well, pretty much every kind, but I have my favourites, and most of them are in the rock or punk department. My top 3 of modern times would consist of Green Day, Fun. and Paramore, but I will always have love for Queen, the best band of all time and I’m a sucker for classic rock songs.
You might be wondering what the purpose of this blog is, and to be fair, so am I. I guess my current aim would be to tell my readers, if I ever have any, about new bands and music that I find and like.
So, let’s start doing exactly that, and talk about my newest obsession: chilled out psychedelic/indie rock.
A couple of weeks ago I found a new band while browsing Spotify called Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and I instantly loved their song ‘Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)’, so I started listening to their other songs, and a lot of them were really good. In my opinion, the best are ‘Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)’, ‘Multi-Love’ and ‘Necessary Evil’. All of those songs are extremely flowy and chill, and have a great mellow feel to them. Lyric-wise they’re pretty simple but they can still be really deep. A band with a sound pretty similar to Unknown Mortal Orchestra is Tame Impala. My favourite  Tame Impala songs are ‘The Less I Know The Better’ (which has a wicked weird video clip, I warn you) and ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards‘.
The last thing I want to talk about before I end this post is the new Paramore single.
Man, I’m happy. Finally, after waiting for four long years and endless drama, leaving (Jeremy Davis) and re-joining (Zac Farro, yay!) members, Paramore is back with the single ‘Hard Times’, and it’s great. The combination of Hayley’s voice, the happy tune and the sad lyrics just works. I’m really happy the band decided to make a new album, cause we waited too damn long for this. The new album, ‘After Laughter’, releases on May 12 and personally I can’t wait.

So, I guess that’s it for now.
If anybody reads this, thanks for that and let me know what you thought about it. This is my first time doing something like this so please be gentle. If you have any suggestions on music I might like, let me know.
